Chain by Length
Sell chain, wire and cable by the inch (or cm, foot, metre) with prices that track the metal market.
Configuring a chain product

Under the hood, one Shopify quantity equals one length unit — an 18-inch chain is quantity 18. That keeps Shopify's inventory tracking meaningful: stock 500 inches, sell them down.
The Chain Length Selector block
Customers shouldn't type "18" into a quantity box. The Chain length selector storefront block replaces the quantity field with a proper length dropdown:
- 1The customer picks a length (e.g.
18") from the dropdown. - 2The block sets the order quantity behind the scenes and records the choice as a Length line-item property, so the order screen reads naturally.
- 3The displayed price is the live per-unit price × length — always current.

💡 Tip: Combine with tiered pricing to give longer lengths a better per-inch rate — tiers count length units as quantity, so a qty-12 tier is "12 inches or more."
